Rome, February 11 (Adnkronos Salute) – Technological advances in medicine are improving the lives of more and more patients every day. Yet, there's still a long way to go before digital tools in the medical field become widespread enough to become the "new normal." A prime example of this is guided dental surgery: a true revolution, capable of providing significant benefits to patients, according to a press release from Idi Evolution, an Italian company specializing in dental implantology.

Thanks to digital design and subsequent creation of components and a customized surgical mask for the patient, clinicians are able to perform minimally invasive procedures. This, it says, shortens the duration of the procedure, but more importantly, shortens the surgical recovery and recovery time: the patient returns home without having to undergo cuts or stitches.

Despite this, however, guided surgery is still struggling to gain traction in the dental landscape, and patients are inadequately informed about the characteristics and benefits of these new surgical techniques. Of the 1,600,000 implants placed annually in Italy, only 18% were placed through guided surgery. One of the main barriers to the development of this practice is the costs borne by dentists, as guided surgery requires the development of custom components.

Idi Evolution has revolutionized the way guided surgery is performed: thanks to BlackBox and its Sorridi digital lab, it has industrialized the process, reducing costs by 75% and speeding up production times. To date, Idi customers perform 40% of their implant insertion procedures with guided surgery.

Our motto is: evolve together. For us at Idi Evolution, progress, if not shared, is just science. Our mission is to provide dentists with the best technology, allowing them to treat patients in the safest way possible. We have worked for several years to lower the cost of access to guided surgery, and now that we have achieved this, our goal is to raise awareness of the immense potential of these techniques not only among clinicians but also, and above all, among patients. The time has come for them to also know that there is a possibility of no longer suffering in the dentist's chair. To date, our clinicians have performed 15,000 guided surgery procedures: we are truly excited about this milestone,” said Andrea Piantoni, Chief Innovation Officer of Idi Evolution.

Blackbox, explains Idi Evolution, "is a mathematical system that transforms an initial request into a coherent final response, using a black box that transports this complex mathematical concept into the procedural sequence of guided surgery. The initial input, consisting of the design developed by the clinician, is transformed into the final implant-prosthetic output, whose operating tools are stored in the black box, recognizable and perfect: model, components, analogs, surgical template, and temporary prosthesis."

Antonio Palladino, a young clinician from Barletta (BT) who has performed over 1,000 guided surgery procedures using Idi Evolution, states: "Thanks to Blackbox, I've been able to offer my patients the best. Today, guided surgery is routine in my practice; patients leave in just two hours, without cuts, bleeding, or sutures. Technology has revolutionized my way of working, and I'm happy that patients can see the difference between a practice that has made technology its strong point and those that remain stuck with traditional methods, which often result in a much more difficult surgical procedure for the patient."
