The goal of the collaboration between Align and IDI Evolution: to support general dentists in integrating pre-prosthetic dental alignment as a standard step in restorative treatment planning.
Align Technology, a global leader a leading global medical device company that designs, manufactures, and sells the Invisalign® System of clear aligners, iTero™ intraoral scanners, and exocad™ CAD/CAM software for digital orthodontics and restorative dentistry, today announced…, has announced a strategic collaboration in Italy with IDI Evolution, an Italian company operating in the field of dental implant prosthetics and technology, to support general dentists in integrating pre-prosthetic teeth alignment as a routine step within restorative treatment planning.
The collaboration brings together Align’s comprehensive digital ecosystem —including the Invisalign System, iTero intraoral scanners and services, exocad CAD/CAM software, and Vivera retainers — with clinical and laboratory expertise to enable a streamlined, predictable digital workflow that supports restorative decision-making and execution. In everyday clinical practice, pre-prosthetic teeth alignment is still often excluded from treatment plans, with clinicians moving directly to veneers or other restorative solutions. This is frequently driven by perceived clinical complexity, time constraints or fragmented workflows. Through this collaboration, Align and IDI Evolution offer a solution for how targeted teeth alignment can be fully aligned with restorative objectives from the outset.
Within this workflow, IDI Makers -laboratory of IDI Evolution- plays a key role in facilitating the exchange between clinic and technology, translating digital planning into clinically effective solutions aligned with prosthetic and functional treatment goals. By acting as a central hub between the dental clinic and digital systems, the laboratory focuses on teeth alignment decisions consistently informed by the desired restorative outcome. Restorative treatment decisions and delivery remain the responsibility of the treating clinician and laboratory partners.
The result is a guided and integrated process based on technological continuity and structured collaboration between clinic, laboratory, and digital workflows. This approach enables dentists to improve clinical outcomes, enhance the final aesthetic of restorations and increase patient understanding of the proposed treatment plan and support treatment planning discussions. By connecting digital data capture, diagnostic, treatment planning, alignment therapy, monitoring and retention into a single coordinated process, dentists can plan restorations with greater precision, preserve more natural tooth structure and reduce the need for invasive procedures.
Designed specifically for general dentists, the collaboration supports a more integrated digital approach to restorative dentistry, positioning tooth alignment as a strategic component of modern restorative workflows rather than a separate discipline. By connecting the practice and the lab through a streamlined, end-to-end workflow focused on the final prosthetic outcome, it enhances planning confidence, treatment predictability and clinical outcomes, while enabling minimally invasive treatments without adding operational complexity to daily practice.
Andra Piantoni, CEO of IDI Evolution, commented: “We are extremely proud to collaborate with Align Technology, an organization with which we share the vision and ambition of increasingly integrated, predictable, and patient centered dentistry—one that empowers all dentists to provide the best possible care. With this project, we aim to offer general dentists a structured clinical pathway in which alignment is considered from the very beginning of every prosthetic planning process, enhancing clinical effectiveness and the overall patient experience”.
“This collaboration with IDI Evolution reflects our commitment to help enable dentists to plan restorations more precisely, preserve healthy tooth structure and deliver more predictable, patient-centered outcomes. Together with IDI Evolution, we are demonstrating how teeth alignment can be fully embedded into modern restorative workflows—without adding complexity to everyday practice,” said Fausto Grossi, VP Italy & Iberia.
